I have become completely obsessed with a new HBO show, available on TMN on Demand if you have it in Canada, called The Flight of the Conchords.
It is about a two-man New Zealand band that moves to New York to try to make it big. Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie are an actual folk parody duo and are the brains behind the show. They play two totally deadpan, unlucky-at-love and completely unsuccessful nerds who once or twice a show, burst into hilariously silly fantasy songs. Their completely inept manager, Murray, also a New Zealander, is also a scream.
Here is one of their silly songs:
Fritzi and I have become enthralled by this show and cannot get enough of it. I should also confess that I find both Jemaine and Bret exceedingly hot, especially Jemaine. He sort of has a bit of a young Mick Jagger thing going, but with a much nicer physique.
Here's another hysterical song, a Barry White parody, almost exclusively featuring Jemaine, though Bret pops up hilariously:
If you haven't watched it, please try to. Episode Six, entitled Bowie and featuring a dead-on Bowie imitation by Jemaine, is a classic. I know Beth from Cup of Coffey would go nuts for it!

Perfect. I';ve been looking for a new show to go OCD on for this winter. Last year it was Weeds.
Thanks, Jacy, I'll look it up
You too will love it with your quirky sense of humour and love of music.
I am in love with both of them, the show and the New Zealand accent. It is so funny and I can watch the episodes over and over and find new funny things I missed the first time.
I've watched the first 3 and they're pretty hilarious I agree, the songs are just outrageously funny. Plus, the accents crack me up.
My favourite Aussie sitcom is Kath & Kim which Showcase used to run but I eventually had to download them all and watch. They're currently on their fourth series.
I love when Bret tells people his name and the exchange goes like this: "Brit?" "No, Bret." "Brit?" I laugh every time.
Also love their hatred for Australians.
I think I am going to go watch one right now. I literally swoon over Jemaine. It's business time!
Looks pretty funny. Loved both those clips.
BTW, you're probably longing for an update on my musical education. Loved Wilco's summer teeth but don't get Ryan Adams.
Diagnosis, anyone?
I'd like to say that Ryan is an acquired taste, but for me, he wasn't. I loved him immediately.
Did I tell you to get Gold? Doesn't that have English Girls Approximately on it and/or Harder Now That It's Over?
Going to see him in a couple of weeks.
As for Summerteeth, it's not the masterpiece that Being There was, in my opinion, but it is a great album. Isn't She's a Jar a lovely song? And How To Fight Loneliness? That whole album sadly reminds me of meeting and falling in love with my ex, so I can't listen to it anymore. I hate when heartache ruins a good album.
Aren't they brilliant!
