It's been a while since I visited the Mummy Blogsphere to see what crazy things they're up to over there, but boy was I not disappointed.
It's the Breastfeeding Wars Chapter XCVMMIIV. Apparently, Facebook has banned photos of breastfeeding moms as obscene, and then, at roughly the same time that the ban took effect, Bill Maher made some breastfeeding jokes, and, well, next thing you know it was a perfect storm of National Latch-ons and Great Virtual Breast Fests.
I think I have officially reached the point where I find lactivists as annoying and possibly more so than the people who think breastfeeding is gross. But the weirdest of them all have to be the men who make breastfeeding one of their big issues, guys like Patrick, for example, who's hanging out in the comments at the League of Maternal Justice Breast Fest page wondering if he can join in even though his wife formula fed their kids.
Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to what that's all about?

Patrick is a tit man?
Tanya once sent me the most disturbing YouTube video ever, a British documentary about a crazy woman who was still breastfeeding her children at ages 8 and 10!!! The one big rotund girl actually has to lie down on the couch to get a bellyful of breast milk.
It was one of the most disturbing things I'd ever seen -- Mom and both daughters seemed truly mentally deranged.
I am ALL FOR breastfeeding and did it myself in public and it is so easy to cover up so no one knows what you're doing. I once breastfed my son under a lobster bib as I ate lobster in Maine. No one was the wiser, baby got fed, no old men or old ladies were offended, etc etc.
p.s. But my son was three months old at the time, not 10 YEARS OLD!!
Sanity, people! If they're old enough to ask for it or to walk up and lift your shirt up, undo your bra and start suckling, I would suggest THEY ARE WAY TOO OLD!!
Jacy, where does the Hot Colombian stand on this issue?
I will need to know before I can decide about him?
I will get the scoop the next time I see him.
Maybe he was in between issues of Lactating Milkmaids. Didn't Lindsay Wagner breastfeed her kids to ridiculously old ages? And now she sells beds on those infomercials probably because she's still tired.
Which boobs are offensive?
hah! (get my lame joke?)
whatever. did you actually see Bill Maher's spiel? dude is a misogynistic jerk. "i only want to see tits if they're titilation for me!" breastfeeding is only "wrong" because of the complete inability for us to see the breast as anything other than a sexual fantasy. and because breastfeeding is not sexy, it destroys the fantasy. since i'm not mom, i haven't really thought twice about breastfeeding. but i was so offended by the maher thing, i've become a lactivist! and i never plan to have children even.
Sometimes Bill Maher is bang-on, smart and progressive and then other times the guy emerges who loves nothing more than to hang out at the Hef mansion and chase tail.
I have a love-hate thing for him.
I so agree with everything he has to say about religion. But he loses me with his thoughts on women sometimes.
Yes Anonymous, I did see the spiel and he doesn't say "i only want to see tits if they're titilation for me!" Nothing like it.

sorry i think that's exactly what he was saying -- he did make a joke about Hooters (an unfunny joke i mght add), something about it being the only place where food and breasts mix. broadsheet's commentary is interesting.

I'm not sure whether to thank you for the link and traffic or tell you to go f*ck yourself for making your asshole comments about me. How about both?
Thank you. And go f*ck yourself.
You don't know me, asshole. I don't 'hang out' on lactivist blogs. I visited that blog from a friend's blog. I semi-agreed with their issue, but had been attacked by lactivists once because 'formula is child abuse' and I wasn't going to support a cause with those people. Not that I owe you an explanation.
Oh my!
Huh.
Anonymous, I'm preparing a long reflective post on meta-breastfeeding issues.
Patrick, studies show breastfed babies swear less.
