More Ethel Kennedy Coverage
We've mentioned Ethel Kennedy twice here at RTK so Tearfree was rather intrigued to welcome this visitor:

Ethel did go out a few times with my uncle from Boston. He wasn't the type to kiss and tell though so I can't provide any details other than that he said some of the kids were real monsters.
It boggles the mind to imagine birthing that many children.
And as I've noted before staying slim in that pre-spinning, pre-Pilates era. Do you think she starved herself or did the kids keep her so busy she just burned it all off? Or maybe she played a lot of tennis. I suspect that Renaissance man, Concerned Lumberjack, may be able to help us out...
HI, I JUST DISCOVERED YOUR BLOG. IT'S GREAT THAT YOU LIKE ETHEL, MY FAVORITE OF THE KENNEDY WIVES.
I AM HAPPY TO REPORT THAT SHE NEVER WENT AND MARRIED, LET ALONE DATED, A GUY LIKE ARI. SO UNCLASSY BUT SO JACKIE. NOR DID SHE HIT THE BOTTLE LIKE JOAN.
AND THERE IS ONE CHILD MISSING FROM THAT PHOTO. SHE HAD 11 IN ALL.
Good thing for Ethel there weren't many orthodontists around back then
Beautiful picture of Ethel & her children:). I've also read lots & lots of Kennedy narratives as well as spending a yr. on RFK Campaign in '68.
To Tearfree: Ethel was very active lady. In this day & age she might have been considered manic! Her energy was just so apparant. She loved tennis and I understand that like Jackie she was quite the equestrian, although that was not published lots. She was so devoted to Bobby and while not as much a fashionista as Jackie, believed strongly in looking great for her man! I don't know that she did take diet pills, but I can assure you they were readily available back in 1960's. My own Dr. at the Student Health Service at Univ. of MN put me on amphetamine as soon as I topped just 20 lbs over-wt! My friends felt very comfortable asking their doctors for speed when Exams came up. I think, though, Ethel had so much zeal for Bobby she had the will to eat minimal to get that baby fat off!
To: KennedyExpert -- the "missing" child from photo may have been her youngest, Roary Kennedy, a baby girl born several months after her father died. It was very tragic. I remember the day I saw Ethel and her baby on TV, I just burst into tears. But Ethel & Ted, who helped w/delivering his brother's last child, were smiling and handling themselves so well!
I have also read many books backing the narrative that Ethel did have quite a time of it w/her kids. While she had good intent and a strong faith in G*d; that kind of trauma does take it's toll. That is a lot of children for any woman to handle, much less alone after your husband has been murdered in such a public spectable. Even with all the hired help in the world, you can't buy happiness for a family.
