Regular readers know Tearfree holds a serious grudge against nutritionists (among others) and their pseudo science. The Unhappy Meals article in last Sunday's NYT magazine explains in detail many of the scientific problems in nutritional research and also makes the point that nutritionists take the fun out of eating.
Needless to say Tearfree doesn't agree with the ending where author Michael Pollan exorts readers to "Cook. And if you can, plant a garden … the food you grow yourself contributes to your health long before you sit down to eat it. So you might want to think about putting down this article now and picking up a spatula or hoe."
Tearfree has made it clear before that she does not want to garden or do yoga as so many of her friends and peer group members do. She would rather sit and read a book or wireless blog in a garden tended by someone else. Her ancestors worked long and hard so they could stop making a living from the land and Tearfree is greatly indebted to them. Bring on the heirloom tomatoes but please oh please, stop telling Tearfree she should be growing them herself instead of blogging.
And Michael Keren, that goes for you too.

I like yoga pants, but not doing yoga. I like looking at green things, but not gardening. I like eating, sortof, but mostly I love to read, read blogs, flop around...
This is like those who say, Cooking for your family is the best thing you can do. Grrr! I know things will be different once the baby is here, but there's nothing wrong with having cereal for dinner!
I hate cooking, it hurts my brain, and I have a small tiny repertoire of stuff I can make. Big deal, I'm still walking around, alive, eating something...
I love eating and occasionally like cooking, but hate having to make dinner when I'm tired and hungry.
If I were rich I'd have a motherly housekeeper/cook.
I grow flowers, herbs and tomatoes. And I cook. I like it,I find it therapeutic (very necessary right now, even if I am not eating what I am cooking) and I do agree that I feel it's a nice thing to do for my family. They appreciate the home cooking and home baking, though I don't think they'd love me any less if I didn't cook and bake.
If I was rich, I'd have a on-call electrolysis person and someone come to my house every day and blow dry my hair.
I totally appreciate home cooking and baking. It's just that I don't want to do either on a daily basis. Also love flowers but don't want to grow them.
I hear you. I will grow you some flowers and bake you a cake.
I like cake. I actually make a nice plain chocolate cake (from scratch!), it's from a Hershey's recipe. It's nice and moist, not super sweet and so easy to make.
Next time you guys are in Toronto, I'll save you a piece.
(you're both in Quebec, right?)
nope, i'm in toronto
