Tearfree: I saw a comment you posted saying that your sister-in-law suffers extreme pain when breastfeeding. Hopefully she's already met with a lactation consultant. If the pain is not at the nipple but seems to be radiating and deeper, then she may have her child latching on to too much of her breast. I used to suffer from the same thing until I found out that the child should only take in approximately one inch of the areola (dark spot around the nipple) on either side of the nipple (total 2 inches). Any more than this and it is excruciatingly painfull to mommy. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Been there, done that.
