Those of you who have been reading Reject the Koolaid since the beginning know that one of the revolutionary things Tearfree did was invoke a no swearing rule. She took this measure because she was appalled at the ubiquity of the F-word and other trash talk on so many of the Mummy blogs.
Well, now the revolution is spreading. One of he biggest trash talkers, Her Bad Mother, has announced she’s cleaning up the language she once boasted about. And in the comments section, you can see that the Mummies are definitely having trouble coming to terms with this latest cursing proclamation.
Tearfree is betting they’ll all be hopping on the clean language bandwagon within days. The revolution is spreading!

Anonymous is interested in hearing your argument against the use of curse-words. Anonymous feels that there is a broad spectrum of curse-words. Anonymous also believes that even the same word (such as the "F word") has a different feeling in different contexts. Anonymous thinks you should present your agrument against using curse-words and perhaps even clarify which words you are offended by. Finally, Anonymous feels you should ban the use self-reference in the third person at your blog. Anonymous thinks it is a pretentious writing style.
Well, it's part slippery slope argurment -- we don't want everyone to do it all the time.
And it's part a style (elitist) thing, It sounds so forced and fake hipster on a Mummy Blog of all things. And next to the baby pictures, it's just all kind of wrong.
I like to reserve cussing for those occasions when it really matters.
Regarding the third person, the policy to date is that it,s third person on the blog, first person in the comments.
Alot of the Koolaid Moms have gotten theri knickers in a knot about the 3P thing but you're the first person to bring it up in a reasonable manner,
What do the rest of you think?
Personally, I love the word f**k. I agree with Anonymous; it can convey so much, from joy to hatred to dirty talk. It can be a verb, a noun, an adjective and an adverb. It truly is one of the English language's most delightfully versatile words.
The third person doesn't bother me, however. It is a bit of a joke, I believe, and I think it works.
I have often disagreed with Tearfree, I think that her satire often leans more towards nastiness than funny.
I do agree with the cursing ban though. I will be the first person to admit that I can be a wee bit foul mouthed, but the f-word has a time and a place and it looses some of its impact if you use it ever second word.
I wish someone would point to me where on this blog Tearfree has been nasty.
Anyone?
The only nastiness I've seen in here is all the nasty comments.
Oh for fuck sakes.
In a world where there's so much shit going on - who has time to give a flying fuck what the hell anyone says - swearing or not?!?!Just get to the fucking point, and learn to pick your goddamned battles?!
Anonymous,
This is the battle I've picked.
And please, unless you spend all 24 hours of your day doing nothing but focusing on the world's most serious problems, back right off.
zzzzzzzz
what a boring battle.
